Tiger Woods, ‘New Moon’ And Homemade ‘Toy Story’ Models In Today’s Twitter-Wood

by on Nov.30, 2009, under MTV Movies Blog

Tiger Woods was a hot topic on Twitter this weekend, and that meant he became a trending topic in Twitter-Wood. Somehow his Cadillac Escalade has become a subject of interest too, particularly with one “Harper’s Island” actor who pointed out that the golfer wasn’t driving a Buick.

Toy Story 3” director Lee Unkrich, meanwhile, retweeted some great shots of homemade models based on the Disney-Pixar series, they’re mighty impressive. Also impressive has been the performance by “New Moon” in theaters this month, but Jim Carrey took note of the movie’s rabid fans and issues a warning in response. Check out those tweets along with sad news from Emmy Rossum, how to get to Sesame Street and Sarah Silverman’s reaction to “Precious.” It’s all waiting after the jump in the Twitter-Wood report for November 30, 2009.

Taylor Lautner And Taylor Swift ‘Had To Make Out’ In ‘Valentine’s Day’

‘That’s all I saw,’ co-star Emma Roberts says of the pair’s scenes in film.

LOS ANGELES — These days, the eyes of Hollywood are upon the “New Moon” stars as they move out of their comfort zones and select non-”Saga” film projects. And few are more intriguing than Taylor Lautner’s upcoming movie “Valentine’s Day,” which has the young heartthrob appearing opposite rumored girlfriend Taylor Swift in a subplot that revolves around them mostly, well, swapping spit.

“They just had to make out,” grinned one of their co-stars, Emma Roberts, as she recently remembered a day watching the two young superstars filming the movie. “That’s all I saw.”

Hoping to be next year’s “He’s Just Not That Into You,” the star-studded romantic flick features everyone from Anne Hathaway to Ashton Kutcher, Jennifer Garner to Jamie Foxx, Topher Grace to Julia Roberts to “The Hangover” star Bradley Cooper — heck, it even has both Jessicas, Biel and Alba. But while the February 12 film’s recently released trailer displays all those actors — and even gives a line to Hector Elizondo — there’s no mention of anyone named Taylor.

“I’m a big ‘Twilight’ fan; I read all the books in a matter of two weeks … Bella and Jacob are my faves,” insisted “Hotel for Dogs” star Roberts, who attended the “New Moon” premiere. “I am Team Jacob, solidly.”

So, when the 18-year-old actress had the chance to film “Valentine’s Day,” she made sure she was on set when Lautner filmed his scenes, even though she wasn’t needed. “We didn’t have scenes together, but I met him on set,” she recalled. “He’s a really good guy.

“He has scenes with Taylor Swift,” she said of Lautner’s subplot, which fueled huge tabloid interest earlier this year alongside rumors that Taylor/Taylor were more than just an on-camera item.

“When you say it like that, come on!” Roberts laughed, insisting that there was more to their story line than simply making out. “Yeah, it was fun. They were both really cool. I hung out with them a little bit.

“Everyone in the world is in it,” she said of the movie. “Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel … it involves all these mini-relationships.”

‘New Moon’ Star Robert Pattinson Names His Favorite Vampire Flicks

by on Nov.30, 2009, under MTV Movies Blog

FROM MTV.COM: With “New Moon” still riding high at the box office and poised to become one of the highest-grossing films of the year — if not all time — the world can’t seem to get enough of Robert Pattinson. It’s a good thing, then, that our pals over at MTV Radio recently spoke with the “Twilight” heartthrob.

Last week, we brought you RPattz’s thoughts on romances, both onscreen and off. Indira Gandhi Biopic Recasts Helen Mirren As The Queen, Taps Tom Hanks For LBJ?

by on Nov.30, 2009, under MTV Movies Blog

Indira Gandhi, India’s first and only female Prime Minister, is getting a much-deserved biopic, and big name actors are being wooed for star-studded cameos. According to The Daily Telegraph, Helen Mirren is in talks to return to the role of Queen Elizabeth II, who she won an Oscar for playing in 2006’s “The Queen.” Emily Watson, meanwhile, has been cast as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Other expected — or at least sought-after — portrayals include Tom Hanks as Lyndon Johnson, Tommy Lee Jones as Richard Nixon and Albert Finney as British actor Peter Ustinov.

The biopic, titled “Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story,” will be released in two parts, a la Steven Soderbergh’s “Che” films. Both will be directed by Indian filmmaker Krishna Shah, who last helmed a pair of American B-movies called “Hard Rock Zombies” and “American Drive-In” back in 1985. Since then he seems to have primarily been a producer of “Sleepaway Camp” sequels. Playing the lead role of Gandhi is Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit, of the very entertaining and hugely successful Indian film “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun…!” (I highly recommend it to anyone curious about modern Bollywood cinema).

For those unfamiliar with Indira Gandhi, the $65.5 million epic will likely be a great introduction to one of history’s most important and most controversial world leaders. Too often confused with Mahatma Gandhi, the guy who championed pacifism during the Indian Independence Movement — he had his own prestigious biopic in 1982, starring Ben Kingsley — Indira was Prime Minister of India from 1966 to 1977 and again from 1980 to 1984, when she was assassinated by two of her bodyguards in response to a military operation she ordered against a group of Sikh separatists.

Daughter of India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi led the nation through its 1971 war with Pakistan, initiated the country’s nuclear weapons program and revolutionized India’s agriculture, all in the first of her four terms. The first film of the two-part biopic, which is set for release at the end of next year, will deal with her life through to this time, reportedly climaxing with a 30-minute, effects-heavy wartime battle sequence. The second film would pick up with her second term, which was marked by electoral corruption, civil disobedience and an eventual State of Emergency, allowing her to temporarily rule by decree.

Shah hopes “Mother” will be a bigger box office hit than “Slumdog Millionaire” in terms of appealing to both Indian and Western audiences. If he can indeed get stars like Hanks, Jones and Mirren on screen and pull off enough impressive war action, that may be possible. And maybe, like both “Slumdog” and that other Gandhi’s biopic, it could even win the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Are you curious enough about the history of India and the life of Indira Gandhi to see a two-part epic like this? Will stars like Tom Hanks and Tommy Lee Jones attract you more to the films?

Robert Pattinson Calls Taylor Lautner’s Transformation ‘Strange’

by on Nov.30, 2009, under MTV Movies Headlines

‘I was like, ‘Jeez, now I have to go to the gym!’ ‘ the ‘New Moon’ star recalls.

With “New Moon” still riding high at the box office and poised to become one of the highest-grossing films of the year — if not all time — the world can’t seem to get enough of Robert Pattinson. It’s a good thing, then, that our pals over at MTV Radio recently spoke with the “Twilight” heartthrob.

Last week, we brought you RPattz’s thoughts on romances, both onscreen and off. Now, as those Thanksgiving leftovers wear thin, we’re happy to dish out part two of that interview, featuring some yummy tidbits on Rob’s 90-year-old fans, jealousy over Taylor’s bod, and his New Year’s resolution to be less self-deprecating.

MTV: Taylor Lautner’s transformation between the movies is now the stuff of legend. Tell us about the first time you saw him and what you thought.

Robert Pattinson: I didn’t see Taylor until just a little bit before we started shooting ["New Moon"]. When he came back, I had the same reaction as everybody else. I was like, “Jeez, now I have to go to the gym!” But yeah, it was strange. This one was weird, because I hardly did any scenes with Taylor. We did the scenes at the beginning and scenes at the end [together], and he had his entire story line develop without me being around, which is interesting, because I had no idea where his performance was going. So it wasn’t really a competition or anything; it was all independent. Whereas in “Eclipse,” we’re doing scenes together all the time with Bella.

MTV: Who is your favorite movie vampire of all time?

Pattinson: Wow, I don’t really know. I always think of the wrong people. I always think Christian Slater in “Interview With a Vampire,” but he’s not the vampire — he’s the interviewer! I really like Wesley Snipes [in the "Blade" movies]. I think Wesley Snipes is great.

MTV: Out of all the “Twilight” stars, you seem to do the fewest interviews. Why is that?

Pattinson: I think it’s such a risky thing doing interviews. I try to limit the amount of interviews I do, because no one is that interesting, especially when you’re not really saying anything. I don’t particularly want to be some kind of character in society or whatever. So I guess the only thing you can do is do jobs and see if people respond to that.

MTV: You tease yourself as “not saying anything,” and a lot of people see you as being self-deprecating. Are you?

Pattinson: I’m always told that I don’t really know who I am, so hopefully I won’t compartmentalize myself because of that. I am just completely ignorant of [how others perceive me]. I’ve never really struggled with anything up until recently. I’ve got to stop being so self-depreciating, because people are starting to believe it. They’re like, “Yeah, that guy is an idiot.” So I’ve tried to stop doing that.

MTV: What was the last fan interaction that really made you laugh?

Pattinson: I always find it funny when older people come up. There was a woman who came up to me the other day who must have been in her 90s! And she said all this stuff; it’s very unusual. And they say exactly the same things as 12-year-old girls! That is kind of bizarre.

Natalie Portman Addresses Her ‘Black Swan’ Sex Scene With Mila Kunis

by on Nov.30, 2009, under MTV Movies Blog

Sometimes you have to ask the tough questions. Questions for which the American public demands answers. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the greater good. Which is why, with these weighty journalistic notions on my conscious, I found myself asking Natalie Portman about her rumored girl-on-girl love scene with Mila Kunis in “Black Swan.”

Directed by Darren Aronofsky (”The Wrestler”), “Black Swan” stars Portman and Kunis as rival ballet dancers, the twist being that Portman’s character can’t really tell if her competitor is real or some kind of delusion. Rumors have been floating around the web that, at some point during the film, Portman and Kunis will go in for a no-holds-barred sex session. I had to get to the bottom of this! Is it true, not true, none of our business?

“It’s a very extreme movie,” she answered. “It’s like very extreme situations. But it’s not explicit in any way.”

Artfully, gracefully put, Miss Portman. And I’m going to take that non-denial denial as confirmation that there will indeed be a lesbian scene in “Black Swan.” Of course, that’ll just be one element—one sure-to-be highly publicized element—yet only one element in Aronofsky’s first film since his Oscar-nominated “The Wrestler.” Portman said she’s due to start filming in early December, but could only offer a bare bones plot summary.

“It’s a psychological thriller about what happens when you reach the top,” she said. “My character starts being paranoid that she’s going to be unseated.”

What are you expecting from Aronofsky’s “Wrestler” follow-up? More than a Kunis/Portman hook-up? Is it me, or does this sound like “Fight Club” with ballerinas?

Guy Pearce Joins Nicolas Cage And January Jones In ‘The Hungry Rabbit Jumps’

by on Nov.30, 2009, under MTV Movies Blog

Guy PearceShh — be very, very quiet. Guy Pearce is hunting wabbits. Or jumping for them, at least.

Pearce, the actor behind such hits as “The Proposition” — not to be confused with the Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds rom-com “The Proposal” — and “The Time Machine” — which is, sadly, the atrocity you’re thinking of — has joined the cast of “The Hungry Rabbit Jumps,” the thriller starring Nicolas Cage and January Jones of “Mad Men” fame. Roger Donaldson is the director.

Variety reports on the casting news but neglects to mention the specific role that Pearce has in the film. Given the premise of the movie and Pearce’s talents, however, it’s likely — not definite, but more than possible — that he’ll play one of the movie’s multiple antagonists.

In October, MTV News spoke with James D. Stern, one of the film’s producers. He described “The Hungry Rabbit Jumps” as a vigilante-centric thriller.

“It’s a thriller about a guy who has something quite untoward happen to his wife,” Stern said of the premise. “He’s approached by a vigilante group and they can take care of it, because it doesn’t look like the police will be able to. In exchange, he’ll have to owe them a favor. He mistakenly takes them up on it and finds himself in a bind that’s hard to get out of.”

My guess is that Pearce is either the guy that does something untoward to the occasional Betty Draper, or perhaps he’s one of the members of the vigilante group. Either way, Pearce is fantastic and tends to do well with gritty material just like this — see “Memento” and “L.A. Confidential” for further proof — so I’m looking forward to his performance opposite Cage and Jones, no matter the role.

What do you think of Pearce’s casting in “The Hungry Rabbit Jumps” and what do you make of the movie’s premise? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter!

‘Panic Attack’ Picked Up By Sam Raimi, Channels ‘District 9,’ ‘War Of The Worlds’

by on Nov.30, 2009, under MTV Movies Blog

I hate to make comparisons, but they are exceedingly apt in this case. One of the best movies of the year, in my book at least, was “District 9.” The unconventional alien “invasion” sci-fi flick started as a made-for-Internet short under the direction of Neill Blomkamp. Producer Peter Jackson partnered up with the fledgling filmmaker, a collaboration which resulted in the feature-length “District 9.”

The moral of the story? There’s a lot of untouched talent out there, waiting to be found. Case in point: Fede Alvarez. The Uruguayan filmmaker is making waves on the Internet today with “Panic Attack!,” a sci-fi short featuring a giant robot alien invasion. It’s a clever piece of film, made for just a few hundred dollars but gorgeous all the same. There are already easy comparisons to be made and you haven’t even heard the crux of the news.

Sam Raimi and his Ghost House Pictures has signed a deal for Alvarez to “develop and direct an original genre project” under their banner, The Hollywood Reporter reveals. A deal said to be in the “six- against seven-figure range.” Ghost House will take on the task of hiring a writer to bring Alvarez’s vision to life. And speaking of that vision, why don’t you take a look:

This has been quite a year for newcomers in the land of blockbuster filmmaking. Blomkamp shocked the world with his best-event-of-the-summer offering, with large thanks in order to his similarly green star (and one-time producer) Sharlto Copley. Then there’s Oren Peli, and the unparalleled success of his genre-breaking horror/suspense flick “Paranormal Activity.”

Now we have Alvarez. His vision may not feel as unique or as fresh given what’s preceded the arrival of “Panic Attack!” this year, but it smacks of quality for me in a way that 90% of the blockbuster fare out there does not. I am excited to see what this pairing with Raimi will bring.

What do you think of the short? Who would be best to flesh out this idea into a full script? What do you make of the year’s unusual discoveries?

Lil Wayne Recruits Eminem For Rebirth Song ‘Drop The World’

by on Nov.30, 2009, under Eminem

Weezy’s label wouldn’t confirm a Rebirth track list posted by Amazon UK.

Way back in October 2007, Lil Wayne told Mixtape Monday he had the perfect track for him and Eminem to get down on. At the time, Slim Shady was on hiatus from music.

But now, with an album already released this year and in the midst of completing another one, Em and Wayne have finally gotten together for a song. Sure, they both had verses on this year’s “Forever,” but that was a Drake track, and Wayne has said that he wanted Em on his own album.

According to Wayne’s management, the new Weezy/Em song is called “Drop the World” and will be included on Rebirth, which is now due December 21, the same day as We Are Young Money, the family album from Wayne’s Young Money artists. Also on December 21, Em will re-release Relapse, subtitled The Refill, and Relapse 2 is due sometime next year.

Amazon UK posted a track list for Rebirth on Monday (November 30), but Wayne’s label would not confirm the lineup. The alleged track list also includes collabos with Nicki Minaj, Kevin Rudolf and Shanell.

Earlier this year, Em told radio personality Angela Yee he was definitely all for a collabo with Weezy F. Baby.

“There hasn’t really necessarily been a time for me to go to collaborate and sh– lately, because I been so locked down in the studio,” Eminem said. “But I’m open for whatever. There’s a lot of rappers in the game I respect, especially right now.”
