We already knew that Miley Cyrus and Bret Michaels were in a mutual fan club, but fans have been taken aback by the provocative nature of their collaboration “Nothin’ to Lose,” which hit the Internet on Thursday. The Poison frontman was quick to defend the ballad, in which the rocker and the teen queen sing about love and sex.

“We both know better than this/ Still we can’t resist/ Slowly get undressed/ Won’t you fall down on me/ So close I can feel you breathe,” they sing in the chorus. But Michaels told UsMagazine.com that he didn’t even take into account the suggestive lyrics when they laid down their vocals. “It’s blown out of proportion,” he said, adding that he had gotten a number of texts about it. “I was like, ‘What the f— is going on?’ Everyone’s going nuts!”

The song, which he said he wrote and recorded years back without Cyrus, got the 17-year-old’s attention while they were recording her cover of his tune “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” for her next album. Michaels said Cyrus’ mother was with them in a New York recording studio when he played “Nothin’ to Lose,” which he says will appear on his album due out in June.

“[Miley's] like, ‘This is an incredible song, it’s beautiful. Maybe I could [add] some stuff to it, some harmonies.’ I said, ‘That’d be killer!’ ” he said. “She was excited that she didn’t have to follow any rules. I never sat down and said, ‘Look at the content. Look at the lyrical content.’

“The part where it says she slowly gets undressed, Miley says, ‘Yeah, she does,’ ” Michaels continued. “It has no reference to her and [me]. It’s not even a duet. As God is my witness, there is nothing I have to be defensive about. I’m a good dad. I just thought it was a beautiful song. ”

Miley Cyrus Discusses Her ‘Edgy Role’ In ‘The Last Song’

‘It’s been a really good experience because it’s kind of my breakout moment in a way,’ singer/actress says.

Miley Cyrus will be at your local cinema in March as the star of the latest Nicholas Sparks movie, “The Last Song.” When fans hit the theater to check out the star’s new flick, Cyrus promises that the role of Ronnie, a rebellious teen who spends a summer with her dad (Greg Kinnear) and finds love (Liam Hemsworth), will prove that she’s ready to grow up and leave her “Hannah Montana” image behind.

“It’s been really great,” the 17-year-old star told JustJared.com. “It’s been a really good experience because it’s kind of my breakout moment in a way. This is more of an edgy role.”

The role not only forced Cyrus to really flex her acting muscles, but it also spoke to her on a more personal level. “I think it’s really important to look for roles that are challenging,” she said. “But also something that you relate to and something that really captures your heart.”

Although Cyrus, who just premiered the music video for her song “When I Look at You,” has one season left on her hit TV show, she has expressed a desire to break free of her Disney princess status for a while now — although she understands her fans might not follow her lead.

“Everything is so dramatic in the world,” she said. “My job is to be a role model and that’s what I want to do, but my job isn’t to be a parent. My job isn’t to tell your kids how to act or how not to act, because I’m still figuring that out for myself. So to take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That’s just life.”

Miley Cyrus And Liam Hemsworth Get Romantic In ‘When I Look At You’ Video

Track is from the real-life couple’s upcoming movie, ‘The Last Song.’

Miley Cyrus is a girl with a piano, a song and a hunky co-star in her new music video for “When I Look at You.” The track is Cyrus’ single from her film, “The Last Song,” set for release in March. And director Adam Shankman, who produced the flick, managed to capture the feeling of the film’s romance in the clip.

The ballad’s video opens with a shot of a piano on a pier and from there we see a close-up of Cyrus, Hemsworth’s feet and then back to the piano. Soon Cyrus is playing the piano and continues to do so for most of the video. In fact, when she isn’t sharing longing looks or locking lips with Hemsworth, she’s at the piano, playing it in the woods, at the beach and in her front yard.

There are shots of Cyrus singing about her dream boy in the woods and in fields of wheat. Her scenes with Hemsworth are incredibly relaxed and natural, no doubt due to the fact that the pair are a real-life couple. Although the video’s only overt reference to “The Last Song” is the romance between Cyrus and Hemsworth, it’s pretty clear by the locale and the aforementioned storyline that this is meant to get Cyrus’ fans excited for the film’s release.

Cyrus is definitely growing up, something she’s wanted to prove to the world for a while now. And although there’s nothing particularly jarring in the clip, the vibe shows that Cyrus is most certainly ready to leave “Hannah Montana” behind.

At the beginning of the year, Miley Cyrus announced that season four would be the last for her hugely popular Disney series “Hannah Montana.” Fellow Disney star Selena Gomez said her colleague is just ready to move on to bigger and more mature things, even if her fans will feel the void left by her decision to end the show.

“I think that she’s growing with the show, and I think it’s such a great platform for her,” Gomez told MTV News, adding that she has yet to talk to Cyrus about her post-”Hannah Montana” plans. “And she’s lived up to it as wonderfully as she could, and I think she continues to carry it, but she’s ready for other things.”

Although there’s still some time until the show does finally end, Cyrus has expressed her desire to tackle more mature projects, like her role in the forthcoming Nicholas Sparks movie “The Last Song.” “Everything is so dramatic in the world,” Cyrus told Harper’s Bazaar. “My job is to be a role model, and that’s what I want to do, but my job isn’t to be a parent. My job isn’t to tell your kids how to act or how not to act, because I’m still figuring that out for myself. So to take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That’s just life.”

While Cyrus is bidding a fond farewell to her alter ego, Gomez is still having a good time playing Alex Russo on her Disney show. ” ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ is getting much more mature in terms of our comedy, [but] we are still keeping the youthfulness of our characters,” she said. “I just feel like we’re all kind of growing, so the characters are evolving.”

Come March 27, the kids will get to see their votes count, when Nickelodeon’s 23rd Annual Kids’ Choice Awards takes place in Los Angeles. They’ll be choosing from a rather familiar-looking nominees list that includes everyone from Taylor Swift to Miley Cyrus to “Twilight.” Kevin James will host the live show, airing on Nickelodeon at 8 p.m. ET.

“In short, I guess you could say hosting the Kids’ Choice Awards completes me,” James told People about taking over the gig that went to Dwayne Johnson last year.

Miley Cyrus, who tearfully accepted the Favorite Female Singer prize last year, is up for four nominations: Favorite Female Singer, Favorite Movie Actress, Favorite TV Actress and Favorite Song (for “Party in the U.S.A.”). Meanwhile, the Jonas Brothers are up for Favorite Music Group, and Joe and Nick are each up for Favorite TV Actor for their show “JONAS.” Oldest brother Kevin did not receive a nomination.

Cyrus will compete with recent awards-show favorites Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift in the Favorite Female Singer category. Swift is also up for Favorite Song for “You Belong With Me.” In the favorite male singer department, Jay-Z fights it out against Sean Kingston, Mario and Ne-Yo.

Of course, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” is up for Favorite Movie, but surprisingly, Taylor Lautner is nominated for Favorite Movie Actor, while Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were snubbed. Lautner will be competing with Zac Efron, Shia LaBeouf and Tyler Perry. Cyrus faces Sandra Bullock, Megan Fox and Zoe Saldana in the movie actress category.

The “Twilight” series, which won Favorite Book last year, is nominated for that honor again, along with the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series, the “Vampire Diaries” series and the classic Shel Silverstein poetry collection “Where the Sidewalk Ends.”

Fans can vote on Nick.com beginning on February 25.

‘We Are The World: 25 For Haiti’ Video Premieres During Olympics Opening Ceremony

by on Feb.13, 2010, under Miley Cyrus

Extended version of song and video are available now on iTunes.
By Jem Aswad, with additional reporting by Rich Sancho

The video of “We Are the World: 25 for Haiti” premiered Friday night (February 12) during the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The new incarnation of the 1985 song sticks closely to the arrangement of the original, but the cast is much larger and, of course, much more contemporary.

On television, the song was introduced by a message from original “We Are the World” principals Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones, who urged viewers to contribute via World25.org, iTunes or by texting “World” to 50555.

A tightly edited version of the video was aired on Friday night, but the long version is available now on iTunes.

That version is introduced by Jamie Foxx, who sets the scene, talking about the original recording and then the new version, the video of which was directed by “Crash” director Paul Haggis. “Do more than just watch,” Foxx says. “Whatever you have, no matter how big or how small, it all counts.”

The video features footage from the song’s recording session intercut with scenes of rebuilding efforts in Haiti. Justin Bieber opens, singing Lionel Richie’s verse from the original, and is quickly followed by Nicole Scherzinger and Jennifer Hudson singing together, then Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles, Josh Groban, and then footage of Michael Jackson from the original recording superimposed with sister Janet duetting on the first verse of the chorus. Barbra Streisand, Fergie, a wailing Celine Dion and others follow.

Miley Cyrus, Enrique Iglesias, Foxx, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, Pink, Mary J. Blige, Akon, T-Pain and others take verses later in the song; a second verse from a recording of Michael Jackson is immediately followed by Usher. Carlos Santana and Orianthi are seen playing guitars; Richie and Jones are often visible, smiling on the sidelines.

The most remarkable moments come from the rappers: an Auto-Tuned Lil Wayne sings Bob Dylan’s verse, Wyclef adds some Haitian flavor, and Will.I.Am and Kanye West both rap verses. “Like Katrina, Africa and Indonesia/ Haiti needs us,” Will.I.Am raps. LL Cool J, Will.I.Am, Swizz Beatz, Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes team up for a rapped section; Bizzy Bone, Kid Cudi, Drake and Nipsey Hussle were also at the session.

The music drops out toward the end to let the chorus sing alone.

Along with the studio footage, we see Haitian children dancing amid the destruction. Tellingly, the Haiti footage focuses on rebuilding efforts.

Haggis talked with MTV News about the session earlier this week. “You hear these stories about people checking their egos at the door, and it really is true,” he said. “They came and stood forever and were glorified extras a lot of the time. They just stood in the corner and waved.”

What do you think of “We Are the World: 25 for Haiti”? Does it stand up to the original? Is it better with rappers? Who has the best verse? Let us know in the comments below!

Miley Cyrus hasn’t let an opportunity pass to make sure she’s doing her part to help raise money for Haiti. She participated in both the “We Are the World” remake as well as the “Everybody Hurts” cover organized by Simon Cowell. Now, Cyrus has rounded up a number of items from fellow celebrities, including Britney Spears, for a Haiti benefit auction beginning on Monday (February 2).

“Ever since the earthquake, I’ve been trying to do my part to help the people of Haiti — and I wanted to do more,” Cyrus told People about the eBay auction, in which fans can bid on the Herve Leger dress she wore to the Grammy Awards last month, as well as two tickets to the Hollywood premiere of her upcoming film, “The Last Song.” “I want to get people involved and show that even the little things you can do can make a difference.”

A message on eBay.com/Miley says that the auction will include tickets to Hugh Jackman’s next movie premiere, Whoopi Goldberg’s tennis shoes and Demi Lovato’s tour wardrobe. Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross. According to People, Nicole Richie has donated jewelry from her House of Harlow line and Spears has donated the silver Versace dress she wore to the 2008 MTV VMAs (having just gained permission to do so in a court hearing last month).

“I texted Nicole and right away she sent over some amazing jewelry and Joel [Madden] sent some of his clothes,” Cyrus told the magazine. “Everyone has been so generous. My mom and I started calling and texting all of our friends to see if they’d like to be a part of the auction. Demi [Lovato] was one of the first to respond. Hugh Jackman was also excited to donate something.”

‘Dear John’ Star Amanda Seyfried Jokes About ‘Sabotage’ On Miley Cyrus

‘We’re not competing for the same weekend,’ co-star Channing Tatum says of another Nicholas Sparks film, the Cyrus-starring ‘The Last Song.’

This year there are two films based on Nicholas Sparks books hitting your local cinema. On Friday (February 4), fans can see Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum fall in love in “Dear John” and, come this March, Miley Cyrus will find love with Liam Hemsworth in “The Last Song.” So, are Seyfried and Tatum feeling a little competitive?

“If ‘The Last Song’ was coming out the same weekend as ‘Dear John,’ we’d have to collaborate on some sort of sabotage mission,” Seyfried joked.

But Tatum notes that there’s no reason for them to worry since the films are opening weeks apart, with “The Last Song” not hitting theaters until March 31. “No, not any more competition than all the rest of his movies coming out,” he said. “I think all his films are very, very separate from one another with one theme: love. We’re not competing for the same weekend.”

With that all cleared up, it seems obvious that fans will love “Dear John” for the same reasons they have flocked to the theaters for other Sparks films: The man knows a lot about love. “Look, he’s got, like, a magic wand when it comes to heartstrings,” Tatum said. “I think he’s a hopeless romantic himself and he just really loves writing about it in really sexy places and really sexy ways. Not to be cheesy or melodramatic — everyone wants to feel loved and that their love is special, and when they read about these once-in-a-lifetime sort of relationships and loves, it’s a great place to go away and escape.”

Check out everything we’ve got on “Dear John.”

Miley Cyrus Looks To Join Demi Moore In ‘LOL: Laughing Out Loud’ Remake

by on Jan.29, 2010, under Miley Cyrus

Disney star is considering a role in the remake of the French mother-daughter comedy.

Miley Cyrus might just have found her next big-screen project in “LOL: Laughing Out Loud.” According to a report in Variety, the 17-year-old Disney star is in talks to join the English-language remake of the French original, with Demi Moore likely to play her mother.

The film will follow Cyrus as a 15-year-old who is cast off by her boyfriend and decides to pursue his best friend. Meanwhile, the teen’s 40-year-old mother (the 47-year-old Moore) is divorced and finding it difficult to restart her life as a single woman struggling to maintain a civil relationship with her daughter.

The original “LOL,” starring Sophie Marceau, hit theaters in 2008 and went on to gross over $20 million, according to Variety. Lisa Azuelos, who wrote and directed the original, will also write and direct the new version.

With Cyrus just beginning production on the fourth and final season of “Hannah Montana,” the move to “LOL” would signal yet another incremental step away from the Disney universe for the teen star. In April, in what is perhaps her most mature role to date, Cyrus will star in the drama “The Last Song” opposite newcomer Liam Hemsworth. She also has a cameo in the upcoming “Sex and the City” sequel, due out in May.

Cyrus has also been verbally expressing a more adult worldview recently, one that is beginning to be evident in her career decisions as well. “My job is to be a role model, and that’s what I want to do, but my job isn’t to be a parent,” she says in the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “My job isn’t to tell your kids how to act or how not to act, because I’m still figuring that out for myself. So to take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That’s just life.”

Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey and Jon Bon Jovi have joined the list of stars pitching in on “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell’s charity single for Haiti relief. According to England’s The Sun, the singers will appear on the cover of R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts,” which will also feature famous Brits Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis and Rod Stewart.

“It’s amazing these great singers are clearing their schedules to make this happen,” Cowell told the paper, which is helping to organize the single. “I just found out Mariah has changed her schedule to be able to do this too.”

Carey’s and Cyrus’ participation in the single could not be confirmed at press time, but an Island Def Jam rep did verify the news of Bon Jovi’s appearance.

“It says such a lot that everyone is working so hard to help Haiti,” Cowell told the Sun. “This is something that really matters to us all, and I’m so grateful for the support we are getting.”

An unidentified source close to Cowell told the paper that Carey was very eager to pitch in on the all-star project. “Mariah was brilliant, she wanted to help in any way she could,” the source said. “Her name gives the single another great boost.”

The recording of the song kicked off in London over the weekend with “X Factor” judge Cheryl Cole and British act JLS, whose Oritse Williams lost relatives in the 7.0 earthquake that has so far claimed the lives of at least 150,000. Also expected to record their bits soon are Take That, Michael Bublé, Westlife, Alexandra Burke, James Morrison, Mika and James Blunt. All proceeds will be split between the Sun’s Helping Haiti fund and the official Disasters Emergency Committee appeal. It has not yet been announced when the single will be released.

Friday night’s all-star “Hope for Haiti Now” event has set a record for funds raised by public giving by a telethon with $58 million and counting. The iTunes album of the music from the show has already hit #1, notching the biggest one-day album pre-order in iTunes history.
